Water and Hydro Update

We've had some rain every day since Sunday, but nothing major as far as the basement is concerned.  The rain last night was a bit heavier, and the basement was mop-worthy when I woke up this morning.  This is largely busy work to give me something to focus on, though.

Some news on the hydro front.  We finally got enough cost and routing information from hydro to let us decide between underground or overhead service. 

It turns out that underground service would not be feasible for us.  Too much extra cost, too much disruption to existing landscaping, too many modifications to the existing house, and too much time to wait for all of that to be done.  Our electrical panels are at at the back of the house.  Hydro would insist on servicing us from the pole at the back of the house, but would also insist on locating the electrical meter at the front of the house.  That means trenching all the way from the back to the front, along the street and then cutting across the landscaping in the front yard.  Then we'd go inside the house and run a big cable from the meter back to the electrical panel.  Oh, and a reinforced concrete trench under the driveway.  No thank you.

So now everyone is focused on getting the overhead service moved as quickly as we can, since the roof construction is effectively stalled-out until the wires are moved.  The new mast will be located on the south wall of the existing house, which puts it back into the laundry room.  I'm very much hoping the new electrical panel can still be located inside the basement of the addition, as any additional panels in the laundry room will add more complication to any plans to neaten up the layout of the laundry room.

I don't have any time estimates yet for when the hydro wires can be relocated, but at least we know what the plan will be.  All of the waiting until now was really to figure out what exactly we'd do.
