Ren-Oh: Moving In For Real

Lots of progress in the past couple of days, going from "construction site with housecamping" to "home, that is also a construction site". Now that we have our stuff back, and the kitchen is basically working, it is hard to call it housecamping anymore.

So what is the state of things?

Fridge, Stove, Dishwasher, and Vent Hood are all connected and working. None of these appliances has been completely installed yet. In particular, the dishwasher is not attached to any cabinets, so you have to be careful when loading and emptying the thing to not tip it forward.
Coffee maker is still running well, and we were definitely pumping out the shots today to help fuel friends who came to help unload the POD.
We have a temporary shower head and curtain in the main bathroom, and we've been showering there for the past two days. It is nice to have natural light in the shower.
Bath vanities for both bathrooms upstairs have been installed, as have the sinks, faucets, and toilets. The contractor will be starting to work on the downstairs bathroom soon.
Peter has done most of the laundry room cabinet and countertop installation.
Andrew was back at the house, this time starting to rip out the carpet from the basement floor. We've moved most everything out of the basement now except for the sofa bed. Once the carpet has been removed, Sam will be coming to install the laminate floor. The order has come in, so there shouldn't be any real schedule issues with this.

Today, the POD got unloaded. We were very fortunate to have our friends Doug and Jarek come over to help unload. That made things a lot easier.

Only a little bit of unpacking has been done. Lots more tomorrow, plus through the week.

The other big news is that the kitchen is definitely coming to life. On Friday night, we had "heat up" food, the same as for the past two months, but this time we used the Fire Breathing Mini Behemoth to heat up the soup and tourtiere. Our friend Bruce stopped by for dinner, and we shared a bottle of Citadel Landing Cellars Chardonnay to officially christen the new kitchen. We were able to eat at the dining room table, since the table had come out of the front entry hall.

Today, the first "actual" meal was made in the kitchen (pancakes for you-know-who), and tonight we had curry chicken with rice and asparagus. Nothing fancy, but the house smells of good food, we all enjoyed one of our staple family meals, and it's the kind of thing you can't make in a toaster oven. Besides using the new stove, I most enjoyed the familiar pleasure of having a chef's knife and a pair of tongs in my hands again.

For Sunday night, I bought a pork loin roast at the butcher shop today.
