The Summer That Wasn't

It was hot last week, with temperatures in the high 20's, and sunny and humid.  Be that as it may, there are signs that summer is ending, though for us it feels almost as if summer didn't happen.  The leaves on our big maple tree are starting to turn colours, and you can hear the Canada Geese flying south for the winter.  Between he rainy weekend weather and the demands of the renovation, we really didn't have much in the way of summer activity this season.

We've had a fair bit of rain over the weekend, the first rain since the spay foam insulation went into the bedroom ceiling...therefore the first chance to hear what the rain will sound like against the metal roof.  It's not too loud, but definitely a bit more "treehouse" than an ordinary shingled roof with an attic space above.  I guess that's OK, as treehouse is one of the descriptive terms for the bedroom that was mentioned by Jane while we were at the conceptual phase with the architects.  Treehouse we got.

This week, we need to firm up a few kitchen cabinet issues with Frank, and hopefully the kitchen island sink has been finished over at Ridalco.  Based on the amount of insulation work that got done on Friday, I don't expect that to take more than one or day more days.  But then again, what do I know about these things.  With luck, the drywall installation will begin later this week.

Jane made chocolate chip cookies in the toaster oven tonight.  This is more or less the first baking anyone has done since we've been housecamping.

  1. That's what the rain sounds like here. Everyone's got metal roofs. I like it. :)
