Weekend Activities

Yesterday was probably the last trip to you know where to look at plumbing fixtures.  We now have the main kitchen sink ordered, as well as faucets for both the main sink and the island sink.  Still working on how to deal with the island sink itself, due to the complexities of putting a sink on an island made out of MIM.

Our kitchen will have some Swiss content in the form of a Franke sink and KWC faucets.

Framing for the ensuite bathroom.  The main wall was moved slightly to align vertically with the beam.  Prior to this, we'd all been struggling to figure out how the make the wall work with all the intersecting angles, etc.  We went through a few different ideas along the way to this.

the right-most corner of the bathroom will be a tiled-in shower with two frosted glass panels in the area that does not have any framing.

the bathroom will have a sliding "pocket" door.  This is the bit of framing inside the wall to hold the door when it is open.  This came as a pre-fabricated piece, and whenever I saw it in the house, I kept wondering what it was for.  The bathroom vanity will be along the wall with the blue window.

Inside the bathroom, the ceiling angles are varied and complex.  We could cover some of this up, at the expense of ceiling height, etc.  We're considering finishing the ceiling without hiding any of the angles.  This would allow us to expose the doug fir beam inside the bathroom, and also to expose some of the structure that went into this area of the house.

The start of framing in the basement. This will be the room where Maddy will stay when she's home, and guests can stay when Maddy is away from home.

Our old foundation wall where it cuts through to the new basement.  Lots of large aggregate, then some sand, then a teeny bit of Portland Cement.  They make 'em better these days.

We have about a week left at the hotel, so we're starting to plan the logistics for the next phase of camping in the house.
