OK, so now that the temporary posts have been removed inside the house, it was time to get rid of the giant section of highway bridge that had been cluttering up the yard.
Oh and what remains of the backyard was filled with fluffy white marshmallow foam.
In other news, I didn't have a chance to take any new photos at the house today.
Photos or not, there's progress, though. We have strapping on the ceiling of the bedroom now, and also there is more framing in the ensuite bathroom and in the basement.
The bathroom plumbing fixtures have arrived at the house, and the electrician has started work. Today, we had walkthroughs with the electrician, and the HVAC guy. Unfortunately, neither our furnace nor our air conditioner will have enough capacity to heat/cool the house plus the addition, so that means replacement. The furnace is only about 5-ish years old, but at the time we got the furnace it wasn't practical for us to buy a higher-capacity model due to problems with our ductwork. Not such a fun day for the budget.
The electrical walkthrough meant figuring out the location of every last outlet, switch, light fixture, and phone/network/cable jack in the place. Lots of things to decide, and extra tricky considering that we haven't actually lived in the space yet...so we have to populate the electrical fixtures based on guesswork. We're also taking this opportunity to fix up a number of things that have been on the electrical "to-do" list since we moved into the house.
The roofers started today on the metal roof for the addition. Hopefully that'll be done for tomorrow, but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, I'll get some pictures online by the weekend.
Had an email from Frank, our kitchen guy, today. The island is coming along well, and he's getting ready to start on the cabinets that go along the walls. I'm still working on a sink for the island, but hopefully will have more news to report tomorrow.
We'll be moving back to the house next week, so our contractor is sending around a crew tomorrow to do a bit of cleanup. This weekend will be spent on getting things organized at the house, and also moving a load or two form the hotel. And the cats need to go to their new hotel on Sunday.

ReplyDeleteI also want to mention that Sydney has a monorail and I think you should get one because they look so cool! Then you wouldn't need that mobile bridge... it takes for ever to move.
There's a nice spot for a monorail station on the roof of the addition. Maybe some Aussies could come over and help design it!
ReplyDeleteA monorail would likely be cheaper than the bridge mover which has to be shipped in from Holland along with the crew - a bunch of Dutch engineers can't be cheap. DO you think you could ship a car or two from the Sydney monorail over to Canada Maddy?

ReplyDeleteIt's cheap, practical, eco-friendly, and you could just use a hanger to slide around from place to place
...but that's just me.
