Progress, mostly forward

Lots of things going on...no pictures to show for it.

• Laminate floor has been installed in the basement bedroom and the family room.  There are a few mouldings to put in, but the rooms are functional in the meantime.
• We have interior doorknobs more or less everywhere now.
• Lots of painting, of course.
• There has been some confusion this week around the glass panels for the shower.  It now appears they may actually be the right size, and the right kind of glass (and thus can be installed).  Or not.
• Trim installation is more or less complete.
• New bath vanity has gone in to the downstairs bathroom.  The sink needs to be hooked up by the plumber.  This will allow for actual counter space in the downstairs bathroom!
• Those blog readers who will also be houseguests over Christmas will be happy to know there will be a shower in the downstairs bathroom.  On the other hand, you may be less happy to know it will be the same old shower.  We won't start the shower rehab project until after the holidays.
• All the bathroom accessories we ordered on the weekend are more or less "indefinitely back-ordered", so we'll have to find some different ones that are actually for sale somewhere.
• Window coverings will get here who-knows-when, so we have some bed sheets over the big window upstairs.  Not so pretty, but I'm frightening fewer late night and early morning dog walkers when I get changed.
• Appliance repair people are coming tomorrow to look at various small issues with the kitchen appliances.
• It wouldn't hurt us to see an electrician at the house sometime.

Sump Pump Woes

Despite it being winter, we are still seeing rainy days, and thus the temporary sump pump outflow is still being called upon quite often.  Only now, with ice and snow outside, the drainage away from the house is basically non-existent.  At one point on Tuesday, there was a huge puddle beside the house, and the water was just going in circles.

We've extended the outflow somewhat, but the grading at the back of our property is not in our favour.  Couple that with dealing with frozen outflows, etc.  There is a more permanent solution in the works we dare not speak of :-)  Today, we started down the road to The Sump Pump Solution That Shall Not Be Named.  This should help us for the next while to cut down on water that is going in circles.
