4 out of 5 ain't bad

Started the morning today with 2 hours of brisk snow shovelling.  We had a big snowstorm yesterday and overnight.  About 30cm f snow, with a layer of freezing rain somewhere in the middle of things.  Ordinarily, some of that shovelling could have waited until later in the day, but due to the bus strike, we needed to have the car first thing in the morning.  On top of that, the contractors needed access to various exterior doors and sidewalks.  This evening, there was another half hour of shovelling, but since the snowplow hasn't really been back this way, I'm expecting tomorrow morning will mean more shovelling to deal with stuff left behind by the plow.

I didn't take any photos of the snowy yard, so we'll all have to make do with these ones from last year.  Today wasn't nearly that extreme, but you get the idea.

Andrew started working on the second storey balcony.  The under-structure appears to be all done, so he'll be doing the cedar decking soon.  Peter was working on various bits of trim, and starting on some wall cabinets for the bathrooms.  He'll be doing medicine cabinets for both of the new bathrooms.

Here is a bank of pigeonholes he's building for the main bathroom.

These will be for facecloths and towels, but for now they do a good job of holding hammers and power drills.

Also today, the window coverings were installed in the kitchen and bedroom.

The blind in the kitchen is somewhat translucent.

Up in the bedroom, the blind is completely opaque, and is motorized.  The electrical outlet near the blind isn't live, so we have the unsightly extension cord.  Did I mention we haven't seen an electrician in a long time?

The window and door in the bedroom, also in opaque fabric.  We get a fair bit of light through both of these windows, so it will be much darker tonight with the blinds lowered.

Hmmmm......didn't expect to still see a towel here

D'Oh!  We wanted a blind for the "narrow rectangular window in the closet", not the "other narrow rectangular window in the closet".  This clerestory window didn't really need a blind for either privacy or light-blocking.  Will have to see how we can sort this out.

We've heard things look promising for tile installation next week...fingers crossed.
