OK, on to the exhibit being shown in Galleria Italia. The Hidden Life Within is a series of really interesting wooden sculptures by Giuseppe Penone. In these sculptures, Penone carefully carved away the outer structure from both large logs and dressed lumber to reveal the inner heartwood in its form as a younger tree.
A bunch of the sculptures along the wall, plus the end of a large piece in the foreground. I didn’t think to take a photo of the carved-out portion of the foreground piece.
I was amazed he was able to preserve some delicate small branches.
