Back to Switzerland

Climb up the hill from where our Swiss Reader lives, and you get a view like this:

including cows, of course

Then turn around a walk a few feet into the woods, and you arrive at St. Gallen's "Three Lakes".  These are three man-made reservoirs at the top of the hill.  I believe the water is pumped up from Lake Constance…the original use was water used in the textile mills down in St. Gallen, but now the lakes are used for swimming and recreation.  With our Swiss reader living so close, it is almost like being at a cottage and being in the city at the same time.

The main swimming lake for adults is 250m long.  Originally, this lake was for men only, but now anyone can swim there.

The second lake is for wildlife, and also ice skating on sufficiently cold winters, while the third lake is for families, and also has a women's' only section.
